Sardinia Unlocked 2025: When the Island Came Together to Design Its Own Future
Sardinia Unlocked 2025 brought 400 participants together to co-design the island's future—68 proposals, 10 finalists, 3 winners. EMC recaps the event.

At Entrepreneurs Meet Cagliari, we spend a lot of time thinking about what happens when the right people share a room. So when nearly 400 participants from across Sardinia and its diaspora gathered on 29–30 November 2025 for Sardinia Unlocked, we watched with real interest — because this was that same idea scaled up to an entire island.
Organised by the Nodi association as part of the Sardinia Region's internationalisation work, backed by the Regional Department of Industry, Sardinia Unlocked wasn't a conference or a festival. It was a two-day exercise in civic imagination: intergenerational, multidisciplinary teams working shoulder to shoulder — some in person, some online — to tackle the island's most pressing challenges from their root causes.
A distributed model that mirrors how communities actually work
What caught our attention was the format. Rather than one venue, Sardinia Unlocked ran across a network of physical hubs — coworkings, schools, libraries, civic and cultural spaces from Olbia to Sassari to Cagliari — all connected live to nodes hosted by Sardinian communities abroad. The message was clear: Sardinia isn't defined by its coastline but by its relationships. It's a philosophy we recognise, because it's the same one that keeps our own meetups going month after month here in Cagliari.
Teams weren't chasing startup pitches or business plans. The brief was deliberately different — policies, pilot actions, territorial programmes, and operational measures capable of regional impact on issues like internationalisation and growth. Systemic problems, approached collaboratively.
Real, tangible output
The results speak for themselves. Over the two days, 68 proposals were generated, then evaluated and refined down to 10 finalists, with 3 receiving formal recognition from a jury of institutional, entrepreneurial, academic, and civic experts. Those winning proposals are now feeding directly into the regional debate and political agenda — with a standing task force on international outreach carrying the work forward.
